hello! i’m kate sheridan.
(full name: Katherine Joy)
I am the product of a weird and wonderful upbringing - born to an artist & a musician who met & married in Provincetown in the 80s, raised in a 300 year old farmhouse on a dirt road in the New England suburbs (where my small town’s biggest claim to fame was an annual Fourth of July celebration that was equal parts wholesome and extravagant - and where my family and extended chosen “family” held a proud ten year reign as parade float champions, including a shockingly realistic driveable pirate ship that then lived in my backyard for a summer).
I channeled the first iterations of my big voice, big hair, and big feelings into community theatre and a wonderfully skilled, supportive, and scrappy high school arts program; that scrappiness led me to pursue further training at North Shore Music Theatre’s pre-professional summer intensive, living with a host family and working to supplement scholarships in order to best prepare for BFAS AND BROADWAY.
Much to 17-year old Kate’s chagrin, my college journey kept me closer to home, at an academically challenging, expansively liberal-arts focused, and deeply Jesuit institution that helped me study sociology, creative writing, and American Sign Language alongside theatre, plus offered numerous opportunities for service, leadership, and inquiry into the WHYs of the world (much to current Kate’s gratitude - experiences that have been as, if. not MORE, important to my career than acting training.)
With a constant eye to that curiosity, passion, whimsy, and scrappiness, I’ve since pursued a Master’s Degree in Educational Theatre, continued education and training in improv, sketch writing, physical theatre, and Theatre of the Oppressed, been a part of domestic and international service work, dabbled in casting, coaching, childcare, camp counseling, church singing and semi-accidental leadership, education and special education with students pre-K through college, taught fitness classes, and made many a latte and spreadsheet - on top of several prestigious positions as a performer and theatre educator.
I am driven by joy - a love of people, of learning, of pink and glitter and rescue pups and Muppets and beaches and trees and laughing and children of all ages, feeling connected to my childhood and my companions and a room full of strangers when the magical sparkles of stage lights hit my eyelashes. I don’t think that makes me any less skilled or serious when it comes to my work - I hope to keep that joy at the center of whatever I do, however that work continues to manifest.
